Keynote

  • The Universal Business Language (UBL) and its Impact by Jon Bosak
UBL is an effort to increase interoperability in electronic commerce by standardizing generic business messages. Its deliverables include an XML library of standard data components; a set of basic business schemas (purchase order, invoice, shipping notice, etc.); and a mechanism for the extension of the basic schemas to operate in specific business contexts. UBL builds on the ebXML initiative to establish a common framework for electronic commerce and uses the OASIS technical committee process to provide a publicly accountable, open, royalty-free forum for the development of the standard schemas. This presentation will explain UBL, describe its current status, and explore its implications for software developers and business people.

Program

  • Beyond ebXML - Next Generation Transport Protocol for Real-time Logistics and Sensor Events across the Wide Area Network (WAN) by David Brock
The Auto-ID Center began a revolution in supply chain and logistics by proposing a unifying system for real-time product tracking and data communication. In this presentation. A brief overview of the Auto-ID architecture and its fundamental information components will be provided. The presenter will also describe Electronic Product Code (EPC) events, which form the basis for real-time inventory management. One fundamental concern both end-user and IT provider is the amount of data generated by item level RFID tagging. Here the presenter gives an analysis of the data storage and transmission requirements for full item-level track and trace across the enterprise. Finally, we will present a hierarchical, multi-leveled strategy for Web Services that is accommodates both low-level EPC events and higher-level business processes.

  • Business Process Standardization Projects in Japan by Hisanao Sugamata
During 2003 - 2004, The Electronic Commerce Promotion Council (ECOM) organized 8 trial projects (including the industries of steel, electronics, publishing, travel, logistics and house equipment) for standardization of Business Process and Business Information. ECOM and those industry committees have developed Business Process and Information Models in accordance with UN/CEFACT Standard Methodologies, such as UN/CEFACT Modeling Methodology and Core Component Technical Specification.

The speaker will introduce those modeling projects and will give the audience the insight obtained from these projects.

  • Interoperability Standards for e-Government by John Borras
The UK Government along with many other governments around the world is implementing e-Govermment strategies. These primarily focus on putting government services on-line. To do this it is essential to use agreed standards for interoperability. This talk will highlight the work the Office of the e-Envoy is doing within the UK, and also the work of the OASIS e-Govermment Technical Committee where many governments are working together to agree standards.
