Abstract :

Dr. Suresh Damodaran will discuss in this informal presentation how
RosettaNet and ebXML technologically enable logistics integration.
With the new regulations set by the US Customs, Dr. Damodaran will
also give a brief analysis of the security and automation challenges
to logistics companies.

RosettaNet is a consortium of major Information Technology, Electronic
Components, Semiconductor Manufacturing and Telecommunications
companies working to create and implement industry-wide, open
e-business process standards. These standards form a common e-business language, aligning processes between supply chain partners on a global basis. RosettaNet is now a subsidiary of the Uniform Code
Council (UCC). (www.rosettanet.org)

The mission of ebXML is to provide an open XML-based infrastructure
enabling the global use of electronic business information in an
interoperable, secure and consistent manner by all parties. ebXML
(Electronic Business using Extensible Markup Language), sponsored by
UN/CEFACT and OASIS, is a modular suite of specifications that enables
enterprises of any size and in any geographical location to conduct
business over the Internet. Using ebXML, companies now have a standard method to exchange business messages, conduct trading relationships, communicate data in common terms and define and register business processes.

Biography : Dr. Suresh Damodaran is a senior software architect at Sterling
Commerce, a subsidiary of SBC Communications and a leading global
provider of business-to-business commerce solutions. He is also the
Chief Technologist of RosettaNet (www.rosettanet.org), a non-profit
consortium dedicated to creating and implementing industry-wide, open
e-business process standards. He helps establish the architectural
strategy of RosettaNet and leads the implementation of the
next-generation of RosettaNet architecture. Dr. Damodaran is the final
arbiter of all technical issues with RosettaNet standards and the
author of the 2003 Wiley publication, "ebXML Concepts and
Application", which provides insight into the progressive, new B2B
standard.

Dr. Damodaran holds a bachelor of technology (honors) in electronics
and electrical communication engineering from the Indian Institute of
Technology at Kharagpur, and received his Ph.D. in computer science
from the University of Louisiana.
